A tour that will open the doors to the Monastery of San Gregorio Armeno, an oasis of tranquility in the hustle and bustle of the famous nativity scene street, to grasp many aspects of monastic life and beyond.
Naples is a sacred city; hundreds of churches, cloisters, convents, religious orders, an expression of a sacredness that can be felt in its alleys. Suffice it to say that at the end of the sixteenth century there were 32 female monasteries in the ancient center of the city alone. In fact, the nuns were well-liked by the community, as they played a role of mediation with God, the Madonna and the Saints, often leading a life very different from how we imagine it. The nuns could be visited by relatives and servants and did not give up taking part in public celebrations and special lunches.
This also happened in the convent of San Gregorio Armeno, among the most important in the city. After passing the access staircase we will enter one of the most mystical and silent places in Naples, we will walk through the well-kept orange grove, we will visit the kitchens and the Abbess's sitting room and more. After the visit to the convent we will stop in the church known by Neapolitans as the church of Santa Patrizia, a baroque jewel that houses the remains of the co-patron saint of Naples, also looking at it from an unusual perspective: from above, like that of the Benedictine nuns and of Santa Patricia.
